Lorenzo is a postdoctoral researcher in vegetation ecology and conservation science. He holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences and investigates the spatial patterns and drivers of plant biodiversity across terrestrial ecosystems, with a particular focus on mountain and mediterranean landscapes. His research aims to assess the effectiveness of protected areas, including the Natura 2000 network, in conserving plant taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity. More broadly, he is interested in plant community dynamics along environmental gradients, disturbance ecology (e.g. fire) and the impacts of human pressures and global change on biodiversity with the goal of supporting evidence-based conservation planning at regional and European scales.
