The global fire distribution in space and time

Thomas Möckel (02/2009-10/2009)

Betreuer: Carl Beierkuhnlein

Natural fire is a global phenomenon. Each year burn tons of biomass on almost continent. The fundamentals of a fire are oxygen, biomass and temperature. The objective of my diplom thesis is to identify patterns in the global distribution of fire in time (frequency) and space (within major habitat types). Target of this study is to identify patterns in and between habitat types with the help of a GIS-analysis and multivariate statistics. In the analysis process should the fundamentals of fire be consitered. The basis of this work is a 7-year MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) dataset and also dataset about precipitation, biomass, topography and atmosphere.
