DESCRIPTION:Adaptation in nature – from ecology to genomesEnvironmental con
 ditions change constantly and individuals have to adapt in order topersist
 . Adaptation therefore plays a central role in evolutionary processes. How
 ever\,there are considerable gaps between ecological and genetic perspecti
 ves onadaptive evolution. Despite revolutionary changes in data acquisitio
 n in molecularbiology\, our current knowledge about trait evolution in nat
 ural systems is scarce. Aholistic view on evolutionary processes is typica
 lly hampered by a lack of knowledgeabout the threads connecting molecular 
 genetic traits with higher-level phenotypes.Filling these gaps has been co
 nsidered a key challenge for biologists of the 21stcentury.Research toward
 s these goals must be highly integrative and cover results fromorganismal 
 biology as well as molecular biology. The summer school „Adaptation innatu
 re – from ecology to genomes” from September 27th - 28th 2016\, held at th
 eTechnische Universität Braunschweig\, brings together scientists and stud
 entsstudying adaption in natural systems. It is a joint meeting of the Soc
 iety of Geneticstogether with the DIP research unit (Gene expression under
 lying parallel habitatadaptation in salamanders) funded by the German Rese
 arch Foundation (DFG)organized by Sebastian Steinfartz (Braunschweig) and 
 Arne Nolte (Oldenburg). Themeeting covers a broad range of topics in the c
 ontext of adaptation\, such asconvergent and parallel evolution\, phenotyp
 ic plasticity\, ancient adaptation\, theecological context of evolutionary
  processes and adaptive radiations. It is the goal ofthe meeting to highli
 ght studies that reveal the interplay between molecular evolution\,organis
 mal biology and ecological conditions.Format and registration: Selected in
 vited speakers will present their results\, butabstracts for additional or
 al or poster contributions can be submitted by email toSebastian Steinfart
 z (s.steinfartz@tu-bs.de). An extended poster session will beorganized suc
 h that the presentation of posters takes a prominent spot in theconference
