Barcoding

Short genetic markers from a 'barcoding locus' of the genome is used to identify organisms and to distinguish them from other species. Barcoding sequences can be obtained from individual samples and pure cultures or from organismic communities.

Barcoding is used in different projects including:

  • species identification
  • species verification
  • de novo community analyis (using next gen sequencing)
